How to Root Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Firmware

Samsung has released the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for Galaxy Grand Duos with model number GT-I9082. The new official firmware is now available as an Over-The-Air (OTA) update as well as through Samsung KIES.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 users who have already updated their devices with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, may root their devices using the tutorial below.

Pre-Requisites
1. Install USB Drivers for Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos on your computer.
2. Enable USB Debugging Mode on the phone by navigating to Settings >> Developer Options.
3. Make a backup of all your important data before following the guide.
4. The Galaxy Grand Duos should be factory unlocked and not locked to any particular carrier.
5. Ensure the battery of the phone is charged more than 80 percent.
6. The CWM Recovery and SuperSU files works only on Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos I9082. Applying these on any incorrect variant might brick the device. Verify the model number of the Galaxy Grand Duos by selecting Settings >> About Phone.

Files Required
1. CWM-touch_i9082_chotu.tar.zip (Mirror Link)
2. Fix-Recovery.zip (Mirror Link)
3. UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.51.zip or the latest version
4. Odin 3.07  (Mirror Link)

Steps to Install CWM Recovery on Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos I9082
Step 1: Extract Odin 3.07 and CWM-touch_i9082_chotu.tar.zip files using WinRAR/7-Zip/WinZip or any other extracting tool.
Step 2: Copy Fix-Recovery.zip and UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.51.zip files to the external SD card of the phone.
Step 3: Switch off the Galaxy Grand Duos. Then boot the device into Download Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down, Home and Power buttons together until a construction Android robot icon with a warning triangle appears on screen. Now press the Volume Up button to enter Download Mode.
Step 4: Run Odin on the computer as an Administrator.
Step 5: Connect the Galaxy Grand Duos to the computer using USB cable while it is in the Download Mode. Wait until Odin detects the device. When the device is connected successfully, the ID: COM box will turn to light blue with the COM port number. Additionally, the successful connected will be indicated by a message saying Added.
Note: If the Added message does not appear, then try re-install USB drivers or changing the port on the computer.
Step 6: In Odin, click the PDA and select the CWM-touch_i9082_chotu.tar.md5 file. Also, ensure the Auto-Reboot and Re-Partition options in Odin is not selected.
Step 7: Double-check and click Start in Odin. The installation process will now begin.
Step 8: Once installation process is completed, unplug the USB cable to disconnect it from computer. Then switch off the phone manually (Take out the battery and put it back in).

Steps to Root Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 by Installing SuperSU via CWM Recovery
Step 9: Boot the device into CWM Recovery by pressing and holding Volume Up, Home and Power buttons together.
Note: This should boot in CWM Recovery if you manually switch off the phone in Step-8.
Step 10: Now select install zip from sdcard, select choose zip from sdcard and then navigate to the Fix-Recovery.zip file. Select and confirm installation by selecting Yes.
Step 11: Return to main recovery menu and repeat Step 10 but this time choose UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.51.zip file.
Step 12: Once installation process is completed, return to main recovery menu and select reboot system now to reboot phone.

The Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos I9082, running official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, is now rooted successfully. You can now install any app that requires root permission. Verify the root status of the device by downloading Root Checker app from Google Play Store.

  2. i unrooted my galaxy grand duos with official warranty back . I was installed custom ROM but battery backup is same as in stock ROM 4.2.2 . i did this very carefully

  3. i have been root my galaxy grand with all of your step up than worked....but when i download from google play, its error with code 491...? how to fix that...

  4. Hi I must be doing something wrong but when I try to Boot the device into CWM Recovery by pressing and holding Volume Up, Home and Power buttons together, it just reboots. I ensured that I removed the battery before I triedto reboot, but it just doesnt work. HELP!!

    1. Make sure that there is no screen lock and the Auto-repoot and re-partition options in Odin is not selected.

  7. hey vikrant same thing happened with me... i guess we have to flash back our previous update...means again download a 950mb file of firmware 4.2.2. to get back our original settings of ROm, since we cant update our phone through official updates until we flash it again (already checked). it says you have modified rom so can't update. :(

      This method worked for me, just unroot you device

  8. @bayu... i don't want OTA bt wanna root my device successfully...bt wt happened was when i installed CWM through downloading mode....my phne restarts every time in press volume up key with home nd power key, means my cwm was not installed properly or there is some other error...now if i cant get into cwm i cant root my device properly buddy...plz help!!

  9. I failed to root my Galaxy Grand. during the installation, my phone showed failed to verify the file and it auto-reboot. everything back to normal. Pls HELP!!!
